On the Bus

When I get on the bus I sit in the middle of the seat. Not the left. Not the right. Smack bang in the middle. It seems to me that most people tend to pick a side. Generally, whatever side is closest to the window. But not me. I like to think its because I’m an individual and not because I’m subconsciously trying to tell people that I am unavailable for chatting and/or sitting next to.

See. Even Rosa Parks picked a side.

Officially Employed

secretary

Sorry that its been so long since I’ve last written… I’ve been super busy at my new job! That’s right ladies and gentlemen this graduate is not longer unemployed.

I applied for a few jobs and didn’t really hear anything so I was doing some fill in work for my dad’s work, while checking seek.com everyday hoping that something better would pop up. One fine day after several minutes flicking through the ads I found one for me. A secretary in a Law Firm. Not only did I take Legal Studies as a subject in my senior years, I also duxed.. which got me to thinking this could be the perfect gap year job.

I applied. A few days later I get an email saying that I had been narrowed down to the shortlist and would I be available for an interview. Heck yes I would!

Monday. I rock up, get asked some questions, get told alot of information that made my brain hurt just a little and walk out, feeling good about it. They tell me that they’ll get  back to me by the end of the week.

Wednesday. I’m chilling at my Aunty Joce’s house when my mobile rings. I answer and am very pleased to discover that I got the job! And that I’d be starting the following week.

So what do I do? Basically:

1. Get the mail every morning and post the mail every afternoon.
2. Answer the phone every time it rings and transfer to the appropriate person.
3. Print faxes and emails and give them to whoever needs them.
4. Scanning. A lot of scanning.
5. Do ALOT of filing. Which I have to admit is probably my favourite part of the job. Some of our Client’s (not that I’m allowed to say too much about them) are really interesting.
6. Typing from the Dictaphone. I like to picture myself like this:

But I’m not really that cool because I only have a computer and my hair is definitely not as perfect as that.
7. Basically anything else I’m told to do. For example today I was with the Big Boss, finalising files, doing costing and typing up Contracts. It’s all very exciting.

This is me on my first day of work. What do you reckon – Legal Secretary or what?

EEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

That’s the sound that escaped my lips when I popped online for a little bit of blogging catch up and discovered that I had won a giveaway! Lovely Danielle over at Danimezza was celebrating 100 followers with a giveaway featuring a Hello Owl bag. I thought to myself ‘I may as well enter, I enjoy reading her blog. I probably won’t win but oh well.’

But I did! I’m very excited! This is the second item I’ve won via the blogging world. I will post  a picture of my lovely new red and white stripped bag when it arrives.

Brisbane’s Worst Vegetarian Restaurant

On Friday, due the fact that I still don’t have a job (although I do have a job interview on Monday!) and had nothing to do I tagged along to work with my dad. It was great to have a little quality father/daughter time, something we don’ get to do too often because we’re both so busy. But we had a lot of time to catch up because we drove to Brisbane. Correction- I drove to Brisbane. That’s right, this little learner sat her bum in the driver’s seat and dove all the way to Brisvegas, including in the actual City! I was pretty impressed with myself I have to say. I feel ready for anything now.

So I spent the day following my dad around as he schmoozed some important guy from the Education Department, dressed all professional and smiling appropriately at j0kes pulled by the ‘adults’. Then came lunch.

Welcome to the Norman Hotel.

They call themselves Brisbane’s worst vegetarian restaurant.  This is probably because they serve no vegetarian meals at all – instead they serve some of the best steak I have ever tasted. I was treated to a Grass Fed Angus Hereford Fillet Mignon. Oh my.

Now I am a meat fan, but this just went above and beyond. It basically melted in my mouth. I couldn't get enough of the stuff. If you’re ever in Brisbane I would seriously recommend this for an excellent dining out experience.
